Surrender: cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority. (The authority known as an injury.)
I’d love to be telling you about my first race of the season or my next race coming up in 2weeks. I’d love to tell you about all of the miles i’ve logged on my new bike(!!!).
Yet neither of those are my reality. My beautiful bike has been for one short spin and the following morning on a very innocent tready run, my foot decided she wanted a break. #notpunny This has been a challenge to write/post because 10 days ago i thought “this too shall pass” and no one will need to know. Ya know, like those sweet sponsors who have me so radically hooked up for the year. And most of all, i wouldn’t have to admit to myself that i needed to slow down (to recover). This is the first time that I’ve actually been out, like down-for-the-count, out. And my oh my, the lessons i have learned along the way, daily or really, hourly. Realizing that which matters most; remembering the sweetness in our health (read: the ability to sweat and the crap that is refined sugar); taking not one single itty bitty ANYTHING for granted – not even that darn lil bone nor that stretchy lil tendon on the top of my chubby lil foot. Waking up at 5AM WISHING I could be running out the door only to have to roll over and go back to sleep until “public swim” opens has really put my world in perspective.
And with this perspective has come a tsunami of gratitude for the people in my world. It makes me feel like I’m on the coolest team in life – the team of healthy, hilarious, highly vibrational + totally radical heart beats.
Meet TeamRadical:
Chiro Dr. Tyler who fits me in at any time of day to laser the heck outta this foot; Physio Marnie who texts me at 7AM to squish me in; Dr. Mark Roberts, the go-to sports doc in town who prescribes horse pills to reduce swelling; CoachJazzyB who sends me my meditation lines and is most concerned about mental health; my lulu peeps who change meeting rooms, carry my coffee and crack some funny joke to remind me why it’s worth the hobble into the office. And just when you think you have the very best on board, these guys go and really make my heart smile…Danielle LaPorte who will come eat raspberries and drink tea on the couch in lieu of our normal pedi dates; Fletchy who I don’t even know where to begin – from doc referrals to secret potions and any possible workout, she’s there (and this darn awesome blog post she goes ahead and writes! #goodgolly); and my main man DF who really keeps life real – really simple when it needs to be, fun whenever it can be and friggen sweet all the time.

The only place better than a start line is a sideline! Feeding this woman on her horse today thru Pemberton – awesome.
So for now, I will continue to cover “miles” of water running, swim until these arms are beat, huck some weight around in a gym and perhaps be the next meditation convert. And if I’m gonna live up to the awesomeness of TeamRadical, you can trust that I’m gonna come back like a tiger released from a cage….#watchout
pssst… I’m off to Chicago this week and tomorrow I will share with glee what’s happening….all I gotta say is the blackhawks better WIN tonight!
