My favorite interview question used to be “when was the last time you lost track of time…and what were you doing?”. Chances are you were doing something you loved, something that brought about heaps of inspiration and perhaps with people you love (solo-love included). (You’d be surprised how many people get lost on Facebook! #justsayin’) Somehow it became Friday this week….an entire week went by…i was inspired around every corner…i’ve officially lost track of time. And in some capacity, these human beings, whether they know it or not, leave me in awe…
Did you know that Michael Jordan turned 50 last Sunday? He is leaving Chicago and moving to Florida – for life and love. I read this rather long article where he dishes on what life after sport is all about. “It’s an addiction. You ask for this special power to achieve these heights, and now you got it and you want to give it back, but you can’t.” Winning is an addiction that follows him off the court and into every aspect of his life. This time in life he has said that he doesn’t always need to win; his finance can win too…#maybeitdoesn’tmatterwhowins?!
On a rainy day, I finished Sister Madonna‘s book- a sweet Valentines’ Day present that was dropped off to the office. #thankYOU.I have had the honour of crossing 2 out of 340(!!) of the same triathlon (ironman) finish lines with this 83yr old IronNun. She started running at age 48 and this cat has got an IronAttitude still goin’ strong…
“A word to the hesitant: anyone can run. If you can walk, you can run. It takes no more skill than that. It comes as naturally as breathing. A lot of people are their own worst enemies. When they start thinking about their age, they say “oh, this hurts, that hurts, i can’t do this, i can’t do that”. Well, so what! When you were a kid, you didn’t bother about what hurt, you just went out and did it. It is beautiful to watch children running with sheer abandonment. They do it more often than walking. Then next step is to recall that you were once a child. Picture yourself running like they do, then do it! So what if you tip the scales at two hundred pounds? Your legs have carried you this far, and they can carry you a lot further a lot quicker with running steps. Turn on the motor of your mind and willpower and go for it.” – Reflections, The Grace to Race
My Man teaches me daily about integrity – he’s got it (and he is never late!); the power of remarkable efficiency – i dunno how he does everything he does and goshdarnnit it gets done quickly; and what it means to be a real friend. Did you know that it is even possible to still hang out with the same crew of boys you grew up with as a toddler? And all live on the opposite side of the country? I‘m sure there are wise quotations about the value of a man’s character, yet my wisdom alone tells me these are qualities you don’t buy and are pretty hard to develop; they are core to a human heart. #ilikethisheartofgold
I did Wednesday’s speed run on the tready with one video on repeat for the entire hour. Danielle LaPorte’s FireStarter mantras are officially engrained in my noggin! #scratchthatrecord!
Inspiration can be really short and sweet too…a cherished friend had the courage to say “i don’t think we are clear…and it’s been 3years”. I so appreciate her vulnerability to tell the truth. Of course we weren’t clear, but we are now! That is inspiring stuff to me. #MWlove
Girlfriends who I run with inspire me, every single time. Last week, I ran with Laurel, who is a wild and crazy inspiration onto herself. And then you will learn that she has an entire entourage that she runs with – chics who put on running shoes and bust out 3hr marathons, run 50km across mountains in snowshoes, win ultra marathons the first time they show up, make their own energy bars, beg boys to teach them how to use compasses…they just run with wild, carefree, child-like abandon and goodnessme, i love it. (well, i love hearing about it – they are far too crazay and way too fast for me!)
From Michael to MegaChics and everything in between, like Love, Inspiration really is all around us! And then it became a sunny Saturday morning which calls for one thing: an adventure to the mountains! #inspirationaroundthecorner xo

Steph, thanks for the video and sharing your perspective on inspiration! You continue to amaze me and provide me with motivation to reach for the stars! Because of people like you, I am living the motto that every day is another step in the right direction. A step towards living the life of my dreams!

Hey Steph,
Child-like abandon is something I’m definitely searching for, and I definitely appreciate you sharing what makes you tick. I would love to accomplish what you have (completing an ironman, but Kona would be unbelievable), while approaching those goals with the same ferocity and vigor, but I just can’t seem to take that first step (getting a bike, going to sleep early, etc.). Any tips? And this cold weather also doesn’t help motivate this Texan.
Wow I just reread that and I come across as a complete wuss. Haha

Ahhhhh my friend…the most beautiful thing of all is that we were born as sweet children with this abandon and we just get simply rigid as we grow up. Search no longer, as the wise Yoda says – just do!
If you wanna wake up in the morning, goshdarnnit – wake up!
The best advice I have for you is to not waste one more second searching…waiting..or wussin’ out…your time is now! See you at 5AM:)

WOW! This is the kind of pep talk I needed for a Tuesday! Thanks Steph! You are right inspiration comes in all forms! At my weekly track training I am in constant awe at all the different age groups that show up to get stronger and faster and acheives their goals. Anywhere between 18-60! Multiple people all with a goal=pure humility.
Cheers to an awesome week of training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
