When was the last time you met a new person and totally fell in love? You met at the street corner and wanted to know their life story? You heard her order her drink at Starbucks and wanted to know more? Or you sat in a room while she shoved carrots and cauliflower in a vitamix while telling you about how to make date night alll kinds of spicy?! The latter happened to me last week…
Kemi was gallivanting the globe with a stop over in Vancouver for a wedding and popped into the office to do a raw food demo. Her bright face, her gosh-darn-fabulous accent and her #truthbombs had me sitting in the front row with a smile plastered on my face, absorbing her every word. Having ditched gluten for the past few weeks, what I know for sure is that 6packs are indeed made in the kitchen! And perhaps a lil raw goodness will only help in the 6pack department. (My abs might be hiding still, yet I’ve never felt MO’ALIVE and mo’fit! They will pop out soon enough!)
At any rate, Kemi made us two delicious recipes and shared her brilliant perspective on why adding raw is only mo’bettah to our lives…”when we eat junk, we feel junky; when we eat life, we feel lively!”.
When she was done, with a lil bit of trepidation, i marched on over and said “would you like to do a yoga class on the beach and indulge in a raw feast on Sunday?” #newfriendalert! And so it happened. We did a delicious yoga practice on the beach with MikeyN and then came back to the Fort for a Feast!
What I thought was going to be a night of Farmer’s Market collectibles and the life of tomato varieties, actually became the coolest + rawest (not even being punny!) conversation about authentic communication – straight from the lessons of Landmark. And we reminisced on our love for Cafe Gratitude. So what else i know for sure is that real food inspires real people to be really great…that is a common denominator i dig.
Now, more than ever before in my life, I am so aware that this body is a temple – it is a gift to take us thru this journey. It is our responsibility – our obligation – our requirement to fuel it with love + greens. And sweet Kemi, thank you for reminding me just how magical it is to meet a new friend in one moment that you know will last a lifetime.
pssssssst….you might wanna check out her book over here. And she is hosting some pretty cool retreats…I think we will need to get her to come back to Vancouver to rock one out with the west coast girls! Stay tuned…xo
