The goal was set independently of anything else (ahem, another Ironman this year!) and quite frankly, I had no clue if it was possible. What i knew for sure was that if i was going to ACTUALLY set goals that felt “50% impossible”, than this was gonna be a Summer 2012 goal. So i set a date (July 25th), pretended to forget about it and was gently reminded by the peeps who knew about said goal 6 days prior! [read: share your goals, people hold you accountable, you do epic stuff!]
The story is beautifully told over here by the Queen Sherpa, Wharty. The day started with a bush-poo at 5:45AM when my stomach and mind and nerves realized that this was actually gonna happen. #holycrap #nopunintended. And by 6AM, i was greeted by a team of awesome human beings dressed in luon cheering me on as i took my first few steps up the grind….and what i need to share with you here is THAT is exactly how i spent the entire 14hr15min on the grind: surrounded by remarkable human beings dressed in bright luon. People came up for their very first grind, they did 2 grinds, they brought their families, they did 3 grinds and were puking at the top, they took the gondola to the top for lunch, old friends and strangers and new friends and my entire team….they all showed up.
…..by 8PM, i had only completed 11 ascents and I knew that 14 ascents AND a gondola down wasn’t gonna be in the cards this year. So i smiled, pulled the plug and had a burger at the top.
What I really wanna say is thank you. Thank you to every single heart beat that shared their beats with me; provided smiles and heels to follow; delivered cheers at the top and online. Thank you to those who did something for the first time that day, or perhaps for the third time. You created the space for #goalfailing to feel safe and embarking upon epicness to feel normal. I am blessed to be surrounded by only amazing people. #luckygirlproblems
